Condition for Safe Operation

During a preflight check you find a cracked propeller that could fail in flight. What does Part 107 require?

  • A.Fly only if the client agrees in writing to accept the risk of an in-flight failure
  • B.Fly below 100 feet, since a defect of this kind is minor on a short flight
  • C.Do not fly until the aircraft is in a condition for safe operation
Correct answer

C. Do not fly until the aircraft is in a condition for safe operation

Why

No person may operate a small UAS unless it is in a condition for safe operation, and the remote pilot must address an unsafe defect first. A client's consent and a lower altitude do not cure an unsafe condition.
